I would think they all do since I seriously doubt that the USB port can provide that much current.

I don't Know specifically about your model. But every one I have seen before required an external PS.

Not sure but a client bought a canon usb scanner it was like really thin and silver, anways I don't think it needed an external power supply.

All of the Canon USB slim series, FB630U, 636U, 640U, 650U, 656U and N1220U do not require external power supply....

I have the N1220U....VERY happy with it.

My Epson 636U doesn't require an external power supply. It DOES have to be plugged in (USB can't supply NEARLY enough power to run a scanner, at least not reliably), but the power supply is internal.

The ones that I HATE are the ones that have an external power supply and plug in a standard DC voltage connector. My folks had one that I FRIED when I plugged it into the 30V DC supply for their printer (Who in there RIGHT MIND uses a 30 Volt EXTERNAL power supply??? Cheap fricking printer!). The amazing thing is that the silly thing worked for about 10 minutes before a big puff of smoke came out of the scanner and it died. I guess the voltage regulator fought a good fight then shorted out, because 1 IC with 16 pins was burned completely off of the board.

Anyway, enough of ranting.
