My old asian classmates from college that I still hang out with sometimes for some reason dislike american food. They always want chinese or vietnamese food.

Is this typical for asian immigrants that have been here for over twenty years?

its still a different style of food for them. Ive lived in asia for over 11 years and still prefer western. And when your eating a foriegn food on a daily basis you just about always jump at the opportunity to eat your homestyle food.

Try going out with their parents.

I was born here, but every time my uncle's in town (he lives in Kansas and has been in America for over 35 years) it's eating out at a chinese restaurant for every lunch and dinner.

I would have thought it would be the other way around because they eat asian food everyday. I would think they would be more open to trying different types of food.

It's not about Asians, it's about what you're used to, what your taste buds are used to. I usually cook more European meals which means a lot less sugar or salt. I can bet that many people who are used to fast foods or takeouts would find it not salty or sugary enough. I almost don't use salt at all, I'd rather use an ingredient that is already salty (some kinds of cheese) or use black pepper or paprika instead. Did you know that all your taste buds for salt change completely each month? That means you'd actually need just a month or so to get used to less salt for example.

Most people dislike most other foods they don't typically eat. And even if they can enjoy something beyond the norm, it's still normal to go back to your cultural upbringing.

Do most Americans dislike non-American food? It's all I see them eat.

Depends on the person. But this goes for everything as well. Are our cuisines so exclusive now anyway? Isn't it all getting merged and re-merged?

Asians are adopting to the Western way of living as fast as possible. Everything from fashion to education to food, they are devouring it. Not just in Asia but the whole world. The whole world is rapidly wanting to Westernize.

Most American food originated from other foreign countries hamburgers/hot dogs/Primerib/Pot pies and on and on.

This non Asian isn't about to start making generalizations about Asians as some here feel compelled to do.

I eat whatever but my parents can't really eat american food besides grilled meats. They can't handle all the cheese, butter, and cream found in a lot of american food.. it's all that dairy, I guess.

I am not Asian but I am the opposite of this. Mexican parents, but I avoid Mexican food when eating out. If I wanted Mexican food I can get plenty of that at home. Tastes much better too. When eating out I would prefer something different.

my roommate is Korean... when he wants comfort food after a bad day, he gets authentic Korean food from Manhattan.

but otherwise, he's just as apt to order pizza or cook pasta.

I will say, in my experience, Asians definitely don't have the same kind of sweet tooth that Americans have, though.

Asians love American food, every time I go to Popeyes for some fried Chicken at least half the people inside it are Asian. Same with Churches Chicken

i've seen asians eat so fast, even they don't know wtf they're eating. don't believe me? head down to the super 88 food court and see for yourself. soup, rice, meat...nothing escapes a black hole.

he probably doesn't want to become a fat ass obese american like the majority of our country so he eats what the normal sized people back home eat.
