I am looking to get some more speed out of my crappy dial-up, i am an USR 56k, model 5686, i am wondering how to make it faster, where can i get init strings?
a good init for a USR modem would be at&f1&c1&d2 for performance. but inmy experience at working for an isp if it is just a little tweaking it works ok.. but a drastic improvement probably wont come of it. also you might want to check out www.modemhelp.org/inits/
Yes they work, but seldom increase overall performance.
My favorite command setting is S11 dialing speed. Almost all modems can handle S11=50 and some of the better brands handle S11=37 . I don't know why but it annoys me to no end when I go to someones place and use their system and they don't have speed dialing on. There's nothing worse (IMHO) then listening to a slow Tone dial.
EDIT:
BTW default setting for S11 is 95 (super slow).
