And this guy in Aion forum is calling me an idiot for the choice of my CPU and my motherboard... he's claiming that i7 is way better and gigabyte boards are utter crap -_-... if you guys could please explain this to me...

OP, don't listen to dude trashing your CPU and MoBo. There's going to be fans/opponents to every brand/model out there. If it works, then that's all there is to it. My Gigabyte board has been running strong for 4 years now while being overclocked, so meh to them.

That's why WoW and GW2 benches are totally stupid, even retarded, IMO. Once you get a few players together the game will start to become a slideshow no matter how good your rig is.

While that generalization is fairly accurate, it's not entirely true. It basically requires the perfect storm of the right hardware for the right game with the right settings and tweaks done. I'm just saying it is possible to get a rig that will run an MMO flawlessly, but the pursuit of that is a serious one. I know, because I've attempted it with just about every MMO I've played, lol (and that's a good long list).

I used to play Aion and know it's a particularly troublesome client to appease in benchmarking.

If you really need samples, best idea is to look for those ePeen youtube videos with claims of high FPS on your game of choice and see if they have high player count capture in it, then take notes on their hardware.

Yea... so this dude who has i7-3770K + sli GTX 680.. says he NEVER drops below 60FPS under any circumstances. I'm a bit upset hearing this because I'd think I would perform just as well with a 7990 :S...

Anyways... if you guys know about the AMD OverDrive, what percentage do I set the power option at? Right now, I set it to -20%

Also.. why do I only get 7.7 on the Windows Index score thing?

He's lying and he's trolling you.

A quick Google search will give you tons of results telling you that Aion is utter crap performance wise.

It depends on the settings. By disabling a lot of CPU dependent visuals, you can probably lock the game at 60 FPS.

Remove the CPU bottleneck and you can most certainly max MMOs out. But most of the time those bottlenecks are what make the games feel more "alive."

Like I said in my example of FFXIV, I can lock it to 60 FPS in major cities with lots of people by pretty much removing reflections, high definition shadows on everyone but me and removal all animations on everyone but me. The game still looks gorgeous but it feels more flat.

Having a good CPU surely helps but it doesn't remove the issue even with everything turned down.

No one can totally remove slowdowns from MMORPGs by just tweaking, that's bullshit. If you have to remove most of the game's appeal to alleviate it, well, you just left me speechless.

If they keep using 3rd party or last decade engines nothing will change.

So the guy who's claiming to have 60FPS solid, is lying? lol

What about the power setting? Can anyone tell me how to set the value? Right now I have -20% :S

also, my Windows Index Score thing is so low for graphics... they are at 7.7... even my GTX 670 gave me 7.9 before

Again, it depends on the system and the limitations. You can most certainly remove the bottleneck through settings, but no it may not work for all MMOs. Some offer onscreen avatar options and locking it to a fixed number most certainly can alleviate the issue.

Options are there to be used, if you want a certain experience there are trade-offs, and I never said it was ideal. But claiming definites isn't entirely accurate either.

It, like any other game, depends on the settings used. If someone told me they had 60 FPS Solid EVERYWHERE in FFXIV using Maximum settings I'd call them a damn liar. If they said they had solid 60 FPS every where using Desktop (standard) I'd be more likely to believe them.

For starters FFXIV uses a character limit cap (ie only x-amount of people are ever shown on screen) which alleviates a lot of the CPU bottlenecking. The rest is alleviated through turning off other dynamic functions.

You'd be amazed how much of a penalty just using shadows carries. Toss in real time reflections and your PC is working overtime.

Powertune works from my understanding on on-demand power requirements. IE if you have excess power to offer, the card will use it. From my understanding is everyone just sets it to +20% and only negative when they are trying to underclock. I normally keep mine at 0%.

As for Windows Index, I don't think it tests multi-GPU settings. And since a single core on a HD 7990 is often clocked slower than a stock one, and a stock one (not Ghz edition) is on par with a GTX 670, it seems about right.

Thanks for all your help in this... I really appreciate it.

So I'm going to do the following as the final resort:

1) Use ethernet cable
2) Upgrade internet speed (doesn't cost much anyways)
3) set 20+% for power option

Hi,

This overprovisioning is a bit confusing to me.... what am I exactly doing?

Basically just format around 80% of the drive's capacity and leave the rest alone. If it's already formatted, just use the shrink volume tool under disc management. Google shrink volume Windows 7 if you need help with that.
