Do Laptop prices follow the same trends as PCs/PC Hardware?

I'm new to the Lappy-game. Looking/researching now. Been told that around June, prices on a certain mid-level laptop, made by a certain well-known manufacturer will be dropping drastically.

My question is: how do people know when prices will drop? Industry-insider secrets? New product line being released, so reasonable to expect that "old" line prices go down?

I'm trying to make sense of it all. Is it just like PC Hardware; i.e. that $500 GF4 you bought today, will cost $300 about 6 months from now? Thanks for not slapping me silly. :Q

AFAIK the depreciation curve tends to be much less steep than standard PC hardware, but I don't follow it much myself either.
