Do it yourselfers - How well were you able to match the color of your external components?

I've built 5 computers, and have never been able to match the color of my case, cd drives, floppy's, etc. I usually buy everything off of the internet, and do the best I can to match components using the pictures on the websites, but it never looks right.

So, how well have you done on this subject? Do you care if everything matches or not? Any tips for making a home built look professional?

Mine sure doesn't match. My Acer burner is more beige than my case, which is also beige, but a whiter beige. I don't really care because the inside is all that counts: all my PCBs inside are green ! :)

I just built a new system:

Antec 635 case (excellent design and power supply; I love those snap in fan cases and the removable drive bay). (also, QUIET: with 2 80mm intake/exhaust fans, stock P-4 1.7HSF, 2 PS fans, graphics card fan and 2 7200rpm HD's)

I put in a TDK veloCD burner and a Creative DVD, and the colors are almost a perfect match. Looks great!

...now if I could only get Win98se to play nice with WinXPpro, then I'd be happy.

Good Luck.

i have an antec 1030W and both my plextor 16/10/40 and my pioneer 115 DVD -Rom match perfectly. A zip 250 I just took out was a perfect match as well. If they do not match, as in one is too light, here is what you do:

Get a Doverman, pinchers prefered. Let him take a leak on it. THere is your precious tint.;)

By the way, to the perfect coating, make sure you give the dog a gallon of water first. Force feed it if you have to. ;)

Seriously, if you need to match components, many arts and crafts stores have a lot of vbariety when it comes to tinting pens. Make sure to get a very clear color, only slightly tined so that the drive's labels can still be read. God Forbid you erase the Plextor logo.

Good Luck. Hope this post made you laugh a little. hehe

i have a cheap generic case that looks pretty cool :) the toshiba scsi dvd drive and the plex burner both match it pretty well

my wife has a translucent purple case, i popped off the face plates of her drives (zip, cdrom, cdrw) and painted them alternating florecent green and orange

actually looks pretty cool :)

I have an antec SX-1030B with an LG CD-RW and an ASUS DVD... I'm having quite a difficult time matching the beige of my drives, the green of my lights and the black (dark charcoal grey) of my case to match. :p
