Do I take a cover letter to an interview?

Do I need one for an interview? I thought they were for sending resumes out in the mail. I know I need to send a thankyou note after the interview.

Can't hurt to have a copy or two on hand, in case they need extras to pass around to HR and such.

bring it but i don't think you need it. bring a resume but they'll probably have a copy of it if you applied online/email

Bring many copies of cover letter and many copies of resume. Wouldn't hurt to have some cards made up either.

Yes, most definitely. Always bring a CUSTOMIZED cover letter and resume to ANY in-person interview.

It shows:

1. You really want the job b/c you took the time to do them up the right way
2. You're detail oriented and care enough about your presentation to do that
3. You're interested enough in the employer, yadda, yadda, yadda

Good luck!

It probably never will be used but it is one of those things you don't want to be caught without. In all the interviews I've ever done I've only had to use my extra resumes once. And that was because another person decided to sit in on the interview and they only had one copy of my resume on hand.

Thank you Mr. X. It was nice speaking with you. Here is a copy of my cover letter and resume for your review. Again thank you for your time. I hope I was able to offer some insight into the situations you were facing. Please feel free to give me a call if you would like to discuss off-line. I think I can help with the X problem you've been facing.

vs.

Thanks, I have no other information to leave you with but I'm glad you wasted 30 minutes on me.

no you don't need one for the interview... you send one with your resume in order to get an interview.
