Do I smell hidden 'Rice-boys'

I think people here are recommending them for their reliability, not the potential to put 5-foot wings on the back of them 😉

<< AFAIK they are really overpriced, although good cars. >>

Where are you getting prices from, the "Overpriced Car Lot?"

<< No offense but the most common suggestion on a used car here on ATOT is Hondas. AFAIK they are really overpriced, although good cars. >>

Dude, are you smoking pot?!?! Yea, not to mention that they have better reliability than ANY other car in their class. They are well desiged, get AWESOME gas mileage, and hold their value. This rice boy stuff is crap.

<< Compared to similar cars with same mileage they are. >>

Think about the miles you've got left on the car, not how many you've been through...a 100k-mile Civic has still got a lot of driving left in it while a similar mileage Hyundai, Ford, etc. is pretty much on its last legs 🙂

Yeah, I know! Everyone asks what low-priced used car to buy, and everyone always says civic! I've been telling them, a cavalier is the only way to go! Sheesh...I mean, it's just so much more reliable!

What would you recommend then? Kias? Hyundais? Daewoos? Those may be cheaper, but the reliability and reputation of Honda is second to none.

<< Compared to similar cars with same mileage they are. >>

What kind of similar cars are you comparing them too?!?!?

<< Compared to similar cars with same mileage they are. >>

Heh heh...Some people would consider that a *good* thing and call it good resale value 🙂

<< Compared to similar cars with same mileage they are. >>

A Civic with 100,000 miles on it still has 200,000 miles of life in it. A Cavalier with 100,000 miles on it has maybe 50,000-70,000 miles left.

<< It's not a general recomendation but an alternative. Got a '97 Olds regency for $6000+tax. 110k miles. The quality seems very good. >>

Key words: "quality SEEMS good". Hondas = "quality IS good"

<< No offense >>

Well, I'm not so sure I'd use the term 'Rice-boys' is I were sincere...

But that aside, the higher resale value placed on Hondas and Camrys reflect their better reliability -- particularly after 75,000 miles. Personnaly, I'd pay the premium up front.

A '97 Olds with 100 kmiles? You better keep a mechanic in the back seat.

Good luck!

dood, you've been hitting the pipe all night...time to pass.....oh yeah, time for you to stop posting on ATOT 2nite as well......

Well, see no problems yet. Top condition, proven drivetrain, documented history, no strange sounds, fully loaded, all OK.
Just wanted to say, There are good finds out there other than Honda Civic. Nothing wrong with Honda Civic, but its small.

Well, that goes for many here. LOL

I'd say Corolla's but they haven't been up to par for a decade or so

Wait I am going to jump in here and defend FrustratedUser. I don't agree with the rice thing and Honda's do make excellent cars. I have been looking for a car in the $5,000 range. I can either go with around a '93 or '94 Honda Civic with over 100k miles or I can go with a Mazda Protege and get a '97 or '98 with 60k for around the same price. Same from offerings from Nissian and other imports. I would say that you are paying a little for the name. Now with that said I *want* a Honda but I am leary of buying a 10 year old car with over 100k miles.

There's nothing wrong with small to a lot of people. To me, a small car means a good 30+ MPG, lightweight (fun to drive), available manual transmission (which I prefer), and it's easily parked. I'm sure your Olds is great, it sounds like you found a good car, but calling it similar to a Civic is a bit of a stretch. I mean they've both got 4 wheels, but they?re not the same genre.

They are everything BUT similar. Just looking at what your $$$ gets you. 22MPG city driving is not bad for a 3.8l V6.
Manual would be more fun tho!

Heh heh...or it makes it a coffin on wheels 🙂
