<< No offense but the most common suggestion on a used car here on ATOT is Hondas. AFAIK they are really overpriced, although good cars. >>
Dude, are you smoking pot?!?! Yea, not to mention that they have better reliability than ANY other car in their class. They are well desiged, get AWESOME gas mileage, and hold their value. This rice boy stuff is crap.
<< Compared to similar cars with same mileage they are. >>
Think about the miles you've got left on the car, not how many you've been through...a 100k-mile Civic has still got a lot of driving left in it while a similar mileage Hyundai, Ford, etc. is pretty much on its last legs
Yeah, I know! Everyone asks what low-priced used car to buy, and everyone always says civic! I've been telling them, a cavalier is the only way to go! Sheesh...I mean, it's just so much more reliable!
Well, I'm not so sure I'd use the term 'Rice-boys' is I were sincere...
But that aside, the higher resale value placed on Hondas and Camrys reflect their better reliability -- particularly after 75,000 miles. Personnaly, I'd pay the premium up front.
A '97 Olds with 100 kmiles? You better keep a mechanic in the back seat.
Well, see no problems yet. Top condition, proven drivetrain, documented history, no strange sounds, fully loaded, all OK.
Just wanted to say, There are good finds out there other than Honda Civic. Nothing wrong with Honda Civic, but its small.

I'd say Corolla's but they haven't been up to par for a decade or so
Wait I am going to jump in here and defend FrustratedUser. I don't agree with the rice thing and Honda's do make excellent cars. I have been looking for a car in the $5,000 range. I can either go with around a '93 or '94 Honda Civic with over 100k miles or I can go with a Mazda Protege and get a '97 or '98 with 60k for around the same price. Same from offerings from Nissian and other imports. I would say that you are paying a little for the name. Now with that said I *want* a Honda but I am leary of buying a 10 year old car with over 100k miles.
There's nothing wrong with small to a lot of people. To me, a small car means a good 30+ MPG, lightweight (fun to drive), available manual transmission (which I prefer), and it's easily parked. I'm sure your Olds is great, it sounds like you found a good car, but calling it similar to a Civic is a bit of a stretch. I mean they've both got 4 wheels, but they?re not the same genre.
