Do I really need to use Maxtor's controller card?

Hello everyone,
I am getting the Maxtor 160GB drive with the controller with it. I was wondering if I really need to use the controller or not? I am using Windows XP with SP1, dual boot with Windows ME. I got the Asus P4PE. I don't have any PCI slots left so I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this subject?
Thanks.

Rather than start a new thread I have a similar question about the same drive/controller.

I got this 160GB Maxtor ata133 and pci card from Staples like a lot of others.
I was going to use it in my replaytv. I have a P4-2ghz system with an ata100 160Gb WD. So, I thought, I may as well put the ata100 in the replay and use this new Maxtor and pci card in the main system (after a drive image). It is already set up for a 160gb drive so xp and sp1 and lba48 are already done. My real question is if the ata133 will matter in the system, or should I just use the ata133 maxtor in the replay.

I only ask as I felt I had nothing to loose by puting the new drive in the P4 and perhaps the ata133 could be a little faster.
I believe tha Replaytv is only ata100 anyway.
I hope this made sense!

I had felt that but I just thought that as long as I had the ata133 card I may as well put the "faster" drive combo in the computer and put the ata100 drive in the ReplayTV.

Thanks for the answers guys. I am trading my two 80GB for this 160GB drive. I might just sell it since I got two 120GB in RAID and an 80GB old Maxtor for backups. I am spending way too much $$$ and I don't make enough.
