do i really need to install service packs?!

The serivice packs are against security flaws and many other things which could harm your system. I highly reccomend installing the service packs which Microsoft comes out with. However... might be smart to look at what the SP does, if you dont need it dont install it.
 
Do you need to? No.
Should you? Probably, In my opinion yes but some might debate it.
If your concerned about security should you? YES
