You should be able to get into the options/settings and turn off or delete the scheduled boot scan. If you do this remember to scan regularly or create a new scan time in the schedule.

If that doesn't fix the problem download a fresh copy of KIS, uninstall your current version of KIS, reboot twice and then install the fresh copy.

If you're surfing risky sites I highly recommend Sandboxie. I've been using it for years to stay safe while browsing, opening pdf's, etc. It is not an AV, it's basically a container for your browsing session. http://www.sandboxie.com/

Also, if you think your infected download another reputable on-demand only scanner and do a scan before uninstalling KIS. MalwareBytes free is a good option.

I'm so frustrated, spent 15 minutes in the settings menu, can't find anything that says "scan on boot", only "enable protection at startup", and I can't find anywhere that I can change when it scan's.

Ok I don't have a icon on my desktop, it's in my taskbar at the bottom, and right click does not bring up properties and I cannot drag it to my desktop.

You have to copy it from your Start Menu. Start Menu > All Programs > find the program and copy & paste it to the desktop or right-click on it and do a "send to Desktop as shortcut". From there, add Incognito mode & go into the settings to enable Click-to-play for plugins.

It's not an end-all, be-all solution, it's just a bit of a buffer, i.e. no cookies, minimal automatic extension loading, Acrobat/Java/Flash won't automatically run, etc. But that plus Windows Defender & Malwarebytes Pro makes for a pretty decent combination of protection without a lot of headaches.

Kaspersky internet security 2013 or 2014?

Are you sure it is kaspersky and not something else slowing down your machine at boot? Does it indicate it is scanning?

If you're running 2013 I would uninstall it and try 2014. Whenever I have an issue with a program I uninstall and reinstall it or upgrade to the newest version. Please don't uninstall KIS if you think your infected. Seek help cleaning your computer instead.

If you do uninstall be sure to time your boot so you compare your boot times.

I have Windows 8, there's no START menu. There is a start menu on the bottom left but you can't copy/paste and there's no "programs".

That's not unexpected. Quilters will tend to be less sophisticated, so the sites are a good way to deliver malware. Coupons too, but to a lesser degree. That's made up by the "get something for nothing" modifier. Warez, music, screensavers, and video also fall under that category.

I saw Chromebook suggested. I'd suggest AnybookUwant with GNU/Linux instead. Install it once, and that'll be the last time you deal with it.

Punch the monkey to win an ipod!!!!

But yeah, Windows 8 comes with MSE baked into it and turned on by default. It won't catch 100% of zero-day exploits, but its unobtrusive and better than nothing. It'll also at least catch PUPs and some bloatware/toolbar garbage that likes to sneak in with legit app installs.

Personally, i've been running MSE for years on all my systems, and every few months I use a more "robust" AV solution to do a full scan while im at lunch or something to confirm. Even frequenting some of the seedier corners of the internet the only infections that are ever picked up are things I intentionally have: pen testing/network diagnostic/remote administration software, etc. The kind of stuff that could be used to cause considerable damage if it was used on someone elses network with malicious intent. Regardless of browser, run an adblocker, a script blocker, and keep flash/java/etc set to only run when allowed. That covers probably 99% of potential drive-by infection vectors from just casual web browsing.

Yep, you have the 2013 version.

You can download 2014 here. http://support.kaspersky.com/us/kis2014#downloads

If you would rather download and re-install 2013 it is here. http://support.kaspersky.com/us/kis2013#downloads

*** If you uninstall your old version you may need your 2013 license key to enter when you install 2014 or re-install 2013. ***

Also, here is a link to their US support site. http://support.kaspersky.com/us/

If everything works out for you KIS 2014 download is on sale for $15 at newegg until 11/27/2013 11:59 PM PT. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832355075

It's a download version so all you would need is the license key they send you. That would keep you protected cheap without the hassle of rebates for another year.

Actually that's false, it comes with Defender. MSE is not available and cannot be used with Win8.

Thanks Man, however I'm considering using something else because my system is so slow to boot.
