It's blistering hot outside (for Boston, at this time of year at least)... 95+ degrees. However, since my apartment is mostly brick with only a few small windows, the indoor temp is 79 degrees (though it is humid). I have a cat, and I've given her lots of water, and she's actually sitting by the window in the sun. I was going to install the AC, but 79 degrees indoor temp isn't *that* uncomfortable. Is it too hot for her or can I wait a bit? Who knows anything about cats?
Do I really need AC yet?

That said, brush the living daylights out of her, and she should be fine. Get that undercoat. She's probably shedding like a... thing... that sheds a lot... damn metaphors. Speed up the process and she'll keep cooler.
Once the indoor temp gets up to 80 or so, my cat starts lying on top of the AC vent, (thermostat set for 75, upstairs is warmer) and the three of them (mine and my roommates') are going through about 3x as much water now as they were a month ago. (We've had a bit of a warm snap too.)

79 degrees is getting to the uncomfortable stage. If it's a long hair cat turn on the AC. Maybe you should put a fur coat on and walk around your apartment to see how it feels?

I won't let my house get above 72 if I am in it. My upstairs man cave is 77 during the summer (sometimes gets into the low 80s if my PCs are going) and that is way too hot.

Hitting mid-90's here in Detroit. Run the AC pretty high...it's around 79 on the first floor, 81-82 upstairs.

I was gonna say...I'm pretty sure people had cats before A/C was commonplace. It'll get used to it.

You aren't one of those people who actually removes your a/c and puts it in storage for part of the year are you? I sometimes run my a/c during the winter if it gets into the mid to high 70s. If I were you I would have been running it long ago.
House thermostat says 85°F, my room is maybe a few degrees warmer because of my computer... Think I'll leave my dog at the ex's house because her parents have AC.
Truth. Cats have no problem with heat. You'll pussy out and turn on the AC well before they're in trouble.

I'm in Boston too, sitting out on the porch was like sitting on the surface of the sun! Our cat is comfortably positioned on a chair directly in the cool stream of the air conditioner.
I've also put Ice cubes in her water dish Turn on your AC, your bedroom will feel like an oven by tonight, how will you get a good night's sleep in an 80 degree or warmer room?

if the cat chooses to sit in the sun, the cat is not too hot. now that it's been all day and your building has been blasted on all sides, is it still only 79 in there? i get the sun on my side in the PM and the temp skyrockets and stays there all night

Anything above 25C in the house is grounds for immediate turning on of the AC. 22-25 is getting uncomfortable but still bearable and can save money by just having a fan blowing on you. But when the ambient air is above 25 then no point in just a fan as it's just blowing hot air on you anyway.

cats are incredibly lazy, and that's heat they don't have to generate on their own.
It's not just the heat, it's the damn humidity. Going to be very sticky tonight and miserable here in eastern MA til Saturday. If you love pussy, turn on the AC.
Since body temp is 37C and we also do evaporative cooling, then I'd say that yes, there IS a point in having a fan blowing on you above 25, particularly if it's dry.
Not as comfortable as AC, perhaps, but MUCH better than nothing.
I usually keep the AC set to around 25C (78F) in the house in the afternoon/evening, but I can sleep with a fan when it's warmer than that.
