Do I really need a different HSF?

I finally got my system all put together and here is what I got:

Abit BX133, PIII 700, 128MB Crucial CAS2 SDRAM, stock Intel HSF

The system is stable at the following points:

940 Mhz @ 1.65v, CAS2, 30c idle, 44c Prime95 torture test
972 Mhz @ 1.75v, CAS2, 34c idle, 48c Prime95 torture test
1001 Mhz @ 1.85v, CAS2, 40c idle, 51c Prime95 torture test*

*The system did fail 1 out of about 20 Prime95 test at this speed, and if I try and run Sandra and Prime95 at the same time it crashes about 50% of the time. Might be my memory that won't do 143Mhz @ CAS2.

Anyways, I've decided to run it at 972Mhz for now at least. With these temps (34c and 48c) do I need a different HSF? If I got something like a GORB, how much would it lower those temps? I have a Inwin Q500 without any case fans and a single hard drive. I plan to add a pair of the IBM 75gxp's in the next few weeks. Will this greatly affect my CPU temps? Should I add a couple of case fans?

Thanks for any advice.

I personally would add a few case fans, but your temps are alright. One thing is for sure, though, with a better heatsink/ better airflow in your case you will almost certainly stabilize your chip at 1ghz(and possibly beyond).

My personal recommendation is to get a taisol socket A heatsink(and modify the clip for p3 use). Performs better than Gorb's and is a bit cheaper to boot.

Mikewarrior2 - Thanks for the comments. I'll get the TaiSol and some case fans.

Vpham97 - I dropped in on that thread just as it appeared to be dying. I offered to go on with the group buy, but I have the feeling I jumped in too soon. Hope I didn't step on anyones toes.

dood...get some fans.
your sys temp is too hot- not healthy.
get at least 2 case fans and an orb (i'd get more fans).
you may want to think about getting hd coolers for those 75GXP drives, they run damn hot!

GL!
