Tax return should be coming anyday now and i am in dire need of a nice LCD (parents took my CRT)

Been looking at a Dell 2001fp and a Dell 1901fp, the 2001 seems to go on sale all the time while the 1901 never does anymore...

Is it worth the extra $200-$300 for an inch of desktop real estate?

Yes. When I moved from 15 to 18 I was hesitant, but will never turn back. After playing for an extended time in the Apple store with the 23 Inch Cinema Display, I can safely say I would never turn one of those down, and would manage to use all the real estate. More screen space is always better.

Am I the only person alive that prefers CRTs still?

EDIT: BTW, every computer I own is using a 21" Trinitron CRT, my desktop uses two and I'm using another one as a TV via a NextVision N6. I live within 10 minutes of a surplus electronics store and an Air Force base. :)

well that's dumb
Agreed. Two 15 inch monitors in no way compares to one full 20 inch monitor.

Ditto. I wouldn't say that dual monitors are bad (since I use them), but they're no replacement for real resolution. Since LCDs are fixed, you have to buy the biggest you can afford right off the bat.

you know your monitor is too damn big when u have to move your head instead of your eyeballs from left to right to read a line of text.

with the 2001fp, you also get a 16ms response time instead of whatever the 1901's is (think it's at least 25ms)

He's right.

er...he's wrong. Last i recall, 2001 has 1600x1200 max resolution. so wouldn't that make it a difference of 320? not 220...

but yes, definitely go w/ a 20" not for the extra 1" of viewable, but for the fact that you can go 1600x1200.
