do i really need a 1GHZ notebook???

I'm going to be using it primarily as my main computer for about 6 months, I really haven't heard to much about Prostar but the prices seem good.

I was having my Dell 700 serviced (bad keys on keyboard), and in talking to the Dell service guy - he said to stay away from all 1 Gig notebooks for a few months, that a number of issues had surfaced (and were keeping him busy). He was working for an agency that supports serveral vendors, not just Dell.

You really shouldn't get a laptop. Unless you are using it for like a business thing where you have to carry it around EVERYWHERE, I STRONGLY suggest you don't get a laptop. It is slower than desktops, more hassles (battery, screen,) and it costs a lot more. But if you really need a laptop, I'd suggest you get something slower or wait until the 1GHZ matures a little bit.

go for something in the 700-800 range at most... don't tell me you can't get your job done with that... anything more and you NEED to be at a desktop, actually a serious class wrokstation to do it. Put it this way, NO one in any company I owned, even presidents would get a ghz notebook no matter what. Overpriced, less reliable, and MOST of the time if you are mobile, it's lapsed into "speedstep" slower mode anyway... so WHY the heck would you pay for more?

Get a slower CPU and use the money for a lappy with a combo CDRW\DVD drive

at that price it probably isn't even a mobile p3, its probably a desktop one. so you will have terrible battery life, and 30 watts of heat burning your lap. cheap isn't a virtue in the notebook side.

1ghz are speedsteped meaning they dont run at 1ghz all the time to conserve battery life. lame.

ok I think I will stay away from the 1ghz and go for something in the 700-800mhz range, I have heard that the cpu in the Prostar's tend to run hot: has anyone else heard of this???


anybody else have a Prostar or heard anything about them???

if it tends to "run hot" they are probably using desktop chips, which are cheaper and can't speedstep to conserve batteries.
