Do I qualify for unemployment?

I have been working at my current job for almost 4 months. I'm about to be laid off. Before this I was out of work for two months, but had a job before that, and it lasted 3 years. Do I qualify for unemployment?

Probably. If you don't have a current claim open, (filed within the past 12 months) then they use the first 4 quarters of the previous 5 quarters. (if you file in October, our benefit year should be based on your earnings from 7/1/09 through 6/30/10.

Three years on, two months off, 4 months on,

My guess is yes.

But the better question might be, do you want to go on unemployment?

Do employers ask if you have been on unemployment on employment applications? Does your receiving these benfits affect later year benefits, etc.

You sound like a smart guy, so if you are asking this question, I am pretty sure you can find a job.

If your past jobs were big money jobs, then yes, milk the system as you find the next big money job.

Bumping it up.

I am just unsure as some people keep saying fud about having to be somewhere for 6 months. I'm not seeing that on any official site about it. If I don't get unemployment then I'm screwed.

I don't know, why don't you call the fucking employment department and fucking ASK THEM since they are the authority on the matter and we are not?

I've been on unemployment and I've NEVER been asked that question on any job application or in an interview. In fact, I don't think they can legally ask that question.

If milking the system = making your mortgage payment and paying your monthly bills then count me in.

File your claim NOW. It can take a month or 2 before you get a check.
Worse case they say no you appela and they still say no. Best case they say ok from the start.

I actually went there physically. I live 5 blocks from there. They straight up told me "This is the Employment Office, not the unemployment office." They wont even talk to you about it. I'm not making a joke whatsoever.

I am able to file it online for the week ending of October 16, but my last day is the October 17th. Should I apply now or wait til next week?

facepalm

I find it funny that the only effort you're willing to make is the wrong direction.

Yes, file now.

The Regional Manager of my employer said to me personally they wont be fighting unemployment whatsoever. This is purely a case of my company losing a property contact to another company and they need to downsize all of us.

Oregon is online and there wont be any disputes from my employer. Why would it take so long?

It won't. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for your "unemployment insurance debit card" thing to get mailed to you, but as SOON as you have money on it, whether you have the card or not, you can call the controlling company and have all the funds transfered to a bank account.

You know what happens when you make an effort?

Stuff happens.

More people on unemoploymet, you file claim, they have to process, they have to wait for company to not fight it, etc...

So it may go real fast or something could get lost/mis-enetred etc... so if you have been told what your last date will be file NOW.

Well, I just sat on hold for an hour to the unemployment office...

They said I do qualify with the information I gave them, but I MUST wait until the day I get laid off to apply. They said it only takes a business day for it to be processed. Here in Oregon you can start collecting immediately but If your employer disputes you might have to pay it all back.

It's a really low amount though. I'd be getting about a little less than 2/3rds of my normal pay. I'm going to be really poor until I can find another job.

See what happens when you make an effort and actually contact the authority on the matter?

Your questions get answered. Imagine that!

What you've posted is normal for just about all states. Be aware (if you aren't already) that you won't be paid for the first week of your claim. It's called a "waiting week" and is standard. I don't know of any state that doesn't have a waiting week for a new claim.
http://www.oregon.gov/EMPLOY/UI/ui_benefit_faq.shtml#What_is_a_Waiting_Week_

Yes, unemployment benefits suck...they always have and always will. Some states pay a higher max amount, and the intermediary rates will also be higher than other states, but you ain't gonna get rich, regardless.

Luckily they cant really stick me into a job that's pretty hard to come by. I was a supervisor if a security staff. Lower security jobs are super-high turnover, but supervisors last forever in this field. I replaced a guy who had the job for 5 years and my boss worked there for over 9 years.

5 years and 9 years are not forever. Those are high turn over rates too.
