Question Do I need to hook up all the connectors on my Asus Prime X570-P?

I ordered the parts last week for a Ryzen build. I started putting it together and the Powersupply doesn't have enough connectors to hook up all the power connectors on the Motherboard. It is an Asus Prime X570-P motherboard and a Corsair CX450 Power Supply. I have a 24 pin connector and the 8 pin connector, but there is a 4 pin connector that I don't have a connector for.

You can plug in the 8-pin CPU connector you have, and hope it is enough. Although I see in another post by you that you planned on buying a 3900X or 3950X, so in that case I would be very surprised if it powered on.

If it doesn't power on, you'll likely have to buy another PSU that comes with the additional 4-pin CPU connector.

Another thing, a 450w power supply isn't that large, so what video card are you planning on using in your build along with such a powerful CPU?

Thanks for your reply. This is a different build. This is a Ryzen 5, only one NVMe and one mechanical drive. Don’t need as much power as the other system that I am going to build next month.

Not sure I understand the 8 & 4 pin power jacks. Why are there two and why doesn’t the manual shed any light besides saying never to plug the in only the 4 pin?

This build won’t be very hefty, but does have a weird video card. The monitor was one we got a good deal on. Found out later that it needed a special card to run it. Some weird DVI card and cable that uses every pin. The regular cable wouldn’t even plug into the monitor. Not sure now what that card is or if it has any different power draw. I will look it up in the morning.

You need to return the Corsair CX450, and get a proper one for a x570 motherboard. Like Mr. Meat, my board wouldn't power up until I attached both power connectors.

The terminology is a little confusing to me. On the Mobo it shows an EATX12V_2 with 4 connectors and an EATX12V_1 with 8 connectors. (Plus the normal EATXPWR w/24)

None of the power supplies list an EATX12V connector. I don't know what to search for.

I noticed on the CX450 it lists 1 (one) of EPS12V/ATX12V Connector.

Is the EPS12V/ATX12V Connector the same as the EATX12V?

I found some power supplies that have 2 - 8pin (4+4) connectors.

Does the power supply that I am looking for need 2 (two) 12v rails?

I can help, I *believe* the Corsair power supply is an older model which uses terms for motherboards from its time. Newer power supplies have the 8 pin & 4 pin connectors labeled as CPU. This this is pretty irritating is the 4 pin connector for a video card will fit but it is not the right power requirement and it possibly could cause damage.
Honestly a 450 power supply is kind of low for a new machine I advise getting a larger one and make sure the larger one has both connectors labeled as CPU.

This one should do it and you can pay less for a different model however seasonic power supplies are in the top tier.

If you zoom in on the connectors, you will see the 4 pin connector. It is labeled cpu like Meat said.

I forgot to mention it is surprisingly irritating in how they label power supply connectors.
From my understanding any decent quality power supply post 2016 should have the connector.

Yep, missed that too. Feature grid was there for a reason, I missed it. :) Feeling a little slow lately. :) The greyer my beard gets, the slower my brain seems to work.

The 650w version doesn't come with a 8-pin + 4-pin CPU power cable.

I only see one 8-pin (2 x 4 pin) EPS connector, which is what you have one your current PSU.

Many companies do not include the addition 4-pin power connector on their smaller wattage power supplies.

I was wrong. It should come with enough CPU cables.

Not a bad question from the op, its one that has been crossing my mind as well. I got a 650w Seasonic Focus with only a single 8 pin. Been going back and forth between a 3900x/9900k build and depending on motherboard the mass majority got the dual plug ins. For Z390 it seems to be a stock config while B450 and some Z370 do have only single 8 pin.

Not like my psu is trash or really needs a upgrade, either cpu stock which i plan to keep it at should easily work with a 650w and any single top tier card. PSU is less then a year old btw so its relatively new.

Has anyone confirmed posting and working motherboards with only a single 8 pin? Some finds on google suggest it should but no one has concrete proof.It's almost like a trade secret.

My 3800x would not power without the additional cable attached.
I was using a seasonic 850 gold power supply.
I couldn’t find the 4 pin connector so I tried without. Zero power.

Same with my 3900x. We weren’t alone as there were quite a few posts saying that their motherboard would not post. Every one went good once they added the 4 pin connector.
