Hi.

My PC is 2 months old and i have an PCI-ex slot so thats fine.
My system has on board grafix and i have been using that from the time i got it.

To install this video card(6800GS) correct me if i am wrong, i must do the following:

1...Shut PC down.
2...Install card in PCI-EX slot
3...start PC up
4...put the install CD for the vido card inside the dvd drive and then follow the steps through the install process.

I only know what to do up to here, this is the first time i will install a video card and i want to do it correct.

Is the steps 1 to 4 correct?

Please guys any help will be grreat.

Thanks.

I dont have any experience with onboard video solutions since I avoid them like the plague, but I think you should uninstall any drivers that might be installed for it then reboot and check if there is an option in the bios to deactivate it. After that, shut down your PC and install the card, boot into windows and install the drivers for your new card.

Yeah, no experience with onboard video here either, but...

I would look for the option in your BIOS to disable teh onboard video and disable it. Or there might be an option to switch between onboard and PCI-E slot as your primary display.

once you boot up with the pcie card installed, it should see that as priority when it boots up. it may stick at a black screen, but it should display off the pcie card.
id then uninstall anything to do with the onboard video card, and then install the drivers for your new card. then go into the bios, and disable onboard video to finalize it.

Guys what i mean is most of you have grafix cards (i'm not talkink about on-board) so when you guys installed your grafix card what did you do.

What i'm trying to say is....., think of it this way.

1..You got a New system.
2..You had to wait 2 weeks before you could get you Video Card(.eg. 6800GS).
3..Now you have all the parts you need so you use your PC with its onboard video.
4..You do not install any video card in this system what so ever.
5..And you use your system just like that.
6..Two weeks are gone and your Video Card arrives at your door.
7..In point form what do you do to install your new Video Card that has just arrived.

I hope you guys understand what i just wrote and can help me.

Thanks.

Turn off the computer.

Plug in new card.

Plug power to the card-- if it has a plug for it.

Attach the monitor to the card.

Turn on and boot to windows.

Device Manager will detect the new hardware, and prompt you to install the drivers.

Point Device manager to where the new drivers are-- or cancel the automatic installation and then just load them up on your own from the CD. After you cancel the automatic install, iIt will say 'drivers could not be found, your new hardware may not work properly"

Install drivers for the new card from the CD.

Reboot.

That's pretty much it.

Your motherboard's bios and then Windows will almost always detect everything-- and
you just plug and play.

In all likelyhood, it won't be necessary for you
to change anything. Just put in the new card and go.
