If I wanted to gut the inside of an old monitor out do I need to discharge it first if it hasn't been turned on for a couple of years? If so do you have any tips on doing this? I want to make an aquarium
Yup, it's really impressive how much and how well a CRT holds a charge.Originally posted by: DaZ
Get a thick rubber glove, and a screw driver with a nice thick rubber handle..
There probably is still somewhat of a chage there.. How strong it is, is the question.
A monitor can hold a charge big enough to throw you across a room for several years..
I would hate to be thrown across my room for several years :QOriginally posted by: DaZ

Yeah, and don't forget to ground the screwdriver to something like a metal pipe, your sister's braces, or the monkey cage at the zoo.Originally posted by: DaZ

god, people are so wimpy, my friend and i took his monitor apart and painted the casing...it had been unplugged about 2 minutes..... only 1 transistor holds a charge...try not to find that one instantly
ROFLMAO...like there are capacitors in a crt...Originally posted by: Colt45
filter caps are going to be long drained after 2 years.
cant think of anything else that would hold charge in a CRT..
another "genius" listen people a CRT CAN AND WILL HOLD A CHARGE OF UP TO 30 KV FOR A VERY LONG TIME...and there are no transistors in a CRT eitherOriginally posted by: cremator
