If I wanted to gut the inside of an old monitor out do I need to discharge it first if it hasn't been turned on for a couple of years? If so do you have any tips on doing this? I want to make an aquarium :p

Very doubtful that it still holds a charge after "years"

Yes you need to discharge. Unlikely that it still holds a charge but personally I wouldn't take a chance....

Get a thick rubber glove, and a screw driver with a nice thick rubber handle..

There probably is still somewhat of a chage there.. How strong it is, is the question.

A monitor can hold a charge big enough to throw you across a room, even for several years..

Yup, it's really impressive how much and how well a CRT holds a charge.

Yeah, and don't forget to ground the screwdriver to something like a metal pipe, your sister's braces, or the monkey cage at the zoo. ;)

filter caps are going to be long drained after 2 years.

cant think of anything else that would hold charge in a CRT..

another "genius" listen people a CRT CAN AND WILL HOLD A CHARGE OF UP TO 30 KV FOR A VERY LONG TIME...and there are no transistors in a CRT either
