Do I need some kind of AMD X2 driver for my X2 system?

I'm building my first A64X2 rig tonight. I've been reading a lot about this AMD X2 driver. WTH is that?

What I was planning on loading:

OS (duh)
DirectX
NForce Unified driver for NF4
Video card driver

That should be all I need...do I need something else?
Thanks.

What MOBO do u have ? Just make sure that the MOBO has the necessary BIOS to recognize the dual cores. U should not have any problems fitting the X2 in the rig and get it going but if the BIOS does not support dual cores, then only one core would be seen by the OS. Install the X2, update the BIOS and u should be fine. Also do not install the IDE drivers from the Unified Drivers. NF IDE drivers cause lotsa troubles.

If you have any problems you can try installing AMD's X2 driver. It's not absolutely necessary but I've heard it adds a line to your boot file that makes the system work slightly better with the X2s.

Thanks guys. The mobo in question is an EVGA NF4SLI; it takes X2's right out the box. I will not install the AMD driver unless I encounter probs.

About the IDE drivers; I have always installed them since back to the the NF2 days and have not had a problem one single time. 🙂

I won't have any IDE HDs in this system; will have two IDE optical drives, though.

I had lots of problems with an earlier version of the NVidia nf2 IDE drivers but the newer ones work well for me...
