Do I need more power?

I'm running a Phenom 9500, XFX 8800GTS XXX 512mb on a Gigabyte MA770-DS3 Board. Do I need more than 550watts?

I've got 4 1 gig sticks of cheap ram, 1 500 gig hard drive and a couple of fans. I'm getting alot of bluesceens and a mates suggested its because I havn't got enough power.

Can anyone help?

Cheers,
Ed

BSODs can be caused by a number of issues. Cheap RAM? Test it using Memtest. 550W PSU? If it is a good unit, then it should run your rig fine. If it is a crappy unit, then it could cause your problems. What brand/model is your PSU?

+1. Running my Q6600 with an 8800GTS 512, 2x optical drives, 3x harddrives, X-Fi Platinum, about 7 fans, on an eVGA 680i uses only 340W.

Check that RAM.

The power supply is antec, a neo power trio I think. When I say cheap ram it's Kingston, but only entry level stuff. I've heard AMD chips suck alot more power than intel, is this true?

I'm gonna get my rig tested properly by a technician, just haven't got around to doing it yet.

Yes, AMD chips use more power than current Intel chips. You don't need to get your rig tested "properly" by a tech. He'll might just use the same tools you'd use (memtest, etc.) Is your CPU over-heating by chance? Are you running any CPU temperature monitoring software?

Again, try memtest. You can install it on a USB Flash drive I believe, or can definitely copy it to a 1.44" floppy disk if you have a floppy drive.
