Can I swap hsf's?
Here's the whole story. Almost a year ago I built my PC with the Iwill KK266 mobo and a 900MHz OEM Athlon overclocked to 1000/133 fsb. Cooling that is a Taisol CGK742092 hsf.
I just built my brother a PC with a RETAIL AMD XP 1700+. I did not overclock his pc but according to "Health..." in the BIOS it's running at about 49 degrees celcius. I must admit, I simply used the "pink square" that's stuck to the heatsink.
Now, since I maintain all his business and family computers, he's made me a really sweet offer. He'll buy me the components to a new DDRAM PC if I give my SDR machine to his daughter. This essentially allows me to upgrade to a KT266A board and an AMD XP as well. Here's my question.
If I buy a retail AMD XP 1700+ but swap the retail hsf with the Taisol, will the hsf that comes with the retail 1700+ be enough for the overclocked Athlon?
Why? My Taisol's fan may be a bit too loud for my niece although I suppose I could just swap the fans. Then again I could just "erase" the overclock.
What do you all think?
