do i NEED a sound card?

i got a new asus pk5-e mobo. it has on board 8 point hd audio. do i NEED a sound card if all i do is listen to music and play computer games casually? i'm in no way a hardcore gamer or musician/composer.

depends on your speakers..

i wouldn't say $400 like the poster above me (i have lx4's and would def use them on a fairly recent sound card)

a good ratio would be 1:2, soundcard:speakers

if u have some crappy speakers or some logitechs spend ur money on upgrading speakers before getting any sound card

I would say something more like a ratio of 1.4:2.62 would be more accurate.
