Do I need a Peltier for Water Cooling

I am looking to change over to a water cooling system and want to know if i need a peltier. I dont want to run the risk of condensation from the peltier, so does it really help that much. The reason i am checking out water cooling is b/c i'm running at 47 idle and 53 load. I am looking at the Maze2 water block. check out my rig and see what u think. thanks in advance for all the help from you overclocking masters.

You don't have to have a pelt, however your temps without one would probably drop 10C from what your running now. With one pelt, you'll probably see temps around 10-20C cpu core temp. I've never been an AMD guy, but from what I've heard tbirds don't o/c alot more when you super cool them.

I've never done this so take it with a huge grain of salt but...

If it were me I'd use the peltier but I'd use it on the side of the water cooler outside the case. I'd also try to design some sort of thermal controll for the peltier rather than leaving it on full blast all the time. I'd also see if it were possible to do this without the water pump (ie. just let the heated water rise up to the elivated heat exchanger). I don't know if you'd get enough flow but if so you'd eliminate a major point of failure.

The Peltier is supposed to go between the CPU and the water block. What good would it do outside the case? And don't even think about water cooling without a pump. How is the water supposed to move? Heat rises, that doesn't mean that hot water does as well. A good person to talk to about water cooling is Warcon. Mikewarrior2 is our resident cooling expert so I'd reccomend talking to him as well.

Typically, yes.

but your temps, for k7t-turbo temps, are normal. You're not likely to gain a huge amount in terms of overclock if you switch to water cooling.

thanks a lot everyone. i'm going w/ water cooling also to make the system quieter. the volcano II is just too loud to sleep with it on. thanks again. i'm gonna not go w/ the peltier. seems like too much a hassle, especially w/ the risk of condensation.

Cool the water water your pumping through the water block. Peltiers are pretty inefficient and generate a lot of heat of their own so I'd rather generate that heat outside the case. I also think that having less stuff clamped to the cpu and less mess in the case near the cpu is a good thing

Hot water rises for exactly the same reason hot air does (it's less dense). In this case the hot water from the cpu will expand toward the heat exchanger and cool water from the heat exchanger will flow back to the cpu. It will definately pump, the only question is will it be fast enough. Having the peltier at the heat exchanger end will increase the temperature differential between the two ends and speed up the pumping action.


What I'm thinking of would be like this:

cpu - WB -----> WB - Pelt - BAH(big a.. Heatsink + fan)

Actually I think other methods have proven to be garbage (trying to pelt a radiator or the resoivoir).. Pelt must go underthe waterblock.. I don't know exactly what the reasons are but there some crap or logic..

You don't need one , you can use a &quot;chiller&quot; which is basicly two peltiers hooked up to another waterblock that is outside your case and normaly has two heatsinks attached with fans to keep it cool. If you go pelt you need to water proof your motherboard which is a pain in the ars ... check out a thread called watercooling , i just updated it and it will give you some good prices (best taht i could find) and where to get it.
