Do i need a mac network bridge on my setup?

i have a win xp desktop comp w/ a dlink wirelelss card/ dilink router. For some reason, i dont really remember setting up my network, i have a mac bridge on my network connection. What does the mac network bridge do?
I looked online and it says to communicate with other languages but i dont know what that means. Anyone help?

does your board have 2 NICs or 1 Nic with firewire "1394"?
