Do i need a mac network bridge on my setup?

i have a win xp desktop comp w/ a dlink wirelelss card/ dilink router. For some reason, i dont really remember setting up my network, i have a mac bridge on my network connection. What does the mac network bridge do?
I looked online and it says to communicate with other languages but i dont know what that means. Anyone help?

does your board have 2 NICs or 1 Nic with firewire "1394"?
Bridge connect two connections

my mobo has firewire and wired lan onboard. lan is not used

Disable it. If things work well, leave it disabled. Otherwise, enable it.
