Do I need a Floppy Drive at all?

i didn't put one in this pc til last weekend when i needed to flash the bios. i ended up just mounting it and leaving it.

the Floppy is the disk drive of the past, present and future. It will probably outlive the usefulness of every other computer component you have, except for the power cable. :)

you might only need a floppy if your BIOS doesn't support modern bootable media like CDs or USB flash drives

Typically, no. HOWEVER, there are still some firmware update programs out there that are distributed in an executable that will ONLY extract to a floppy drive. (And the components of the executable can't just be uncompressed into a file, either). Fortunately, there aren't a lot of these. Unfortunately, there are still some of them...
