Do I lose trim support on my intel ssd if I raid my samsung f3's?

What does this mean exactly (see red arrows)? Does it mean I will lose trim on the intel ssd even though the only drives in raid0 are the samsung f3's?



system:
asus p7p55d-e pro
intel ssd 80gb gen2 (OS/games)
2x Samsung F3 1tb
 
That depends on what controller you are using for the array. Are you using the stock motherboard controller, or do you have a card? If the first, which version of Intel's controller does your board have?
 
In that case, the controller will pass TRIM instructions to your SSD in RAID mode, as long as the drive is not an actual member of the array.
 
thank you! FishAk that's just what I wanted to hear. Got one more question. Since I'm installing the OS on the single intel ssd do I still need to have the raid driver disk when installing win7?
 
Make sure you are using the most current Intel SATA driver too. Earlier driver versions don't support the trim passthrough on controllers with a RAID set up on it (even if the SSD is not partaking in the actual RAID setup).

this is true only w/ the Intel RST 9.6+ IIRC (and I believe you are not suppose to install Intel Storage Matrix, the RST will be in it's place)

I have an SSD + 2 mech HDDs in RAID with it set to AHCI in the BIOS and the RAID configuration done from within Windows. Can I enable RAID in the BIOS without breaking anything?

Why would you want to enable the fakeRAID if you already do have a functional software RAID?
 
Which software RAID format does that Windows use? IME, both software and fakeRAID's (and hwRAID's too) do store array metadata into the disks. One format's metadata overwriting another format's is a horror scenario.

Furthermore, your current Windows would be confused on deciding whether to activate the "software" or the "BIOS" array, unless you convert it from its current format to the fakeRAID format.

I do not say that such mix are impossible, but I would not try without proper backup.

What would be the other OS? And which RAID mode is in use now?
(Not to mention: Have you just hijacked a thread of somebody else?)
