Did this once.

NEVER EVER NEVER EVER do this. Some parts aren't supposed to get tanned.

Plus it made me look like I got the spanking of my life 🙁

OP, suggest you check out this article from the other day:

SKIN CANCER

Seems tanning beds just about as bad as being out in the sun, if you overdo it. Skin cancer, FTL.

Having lost a sister less than 6 months ago, due to melanoma, I'd have to suggest you play it smart, and forget the tan. 🙁

How old was she?

Is a tanning bed tan different from a sun tan? As in, will the tan I get from a tanning bed make me significantly more resistant to sunburn than I would be normally?

Sure, its artificial UV production, so its not going to match what you get from the Sun. But if you're in a good quality bed, it should be the right kinds of UV to produce melanin.

If you have built up melanin in your skin (a tan), then yes, that will protect you better from sun burn.

*sigh*

But that's to build strength so I don't tire out in the garden when I'm hauling loads of rocks or splitting firewood, etc. THis is also my tanning time. YOu'd be amazed how much color you can get in the winter by being outdoors and getting fresh air doing something physical.

I'm almost never in the sun, hence my need of a tan. I figured a tanning bed would probably be somewhat worse than the sun as far as radiation goes, but skin cancer is largely caused by the cumulative effects of exposure. It says right there in the article that the lady was constantly in the sun day in and day out. If I hardly ever get any sun otherwise, and I only tan for a short time one month out of the year; I can't possibly be in the kind of danger she was in. Not to mention that my skin is not fair like hers.

Ok, I give in. We should all live our lives exactly like you. Why would I not want free stone walls?

Occupational sun exposure isn't as bad for you as occasional exposure. The weekend warrior has more to worry about than the landscape worker.

Maybe I should get a job at the Salon and tan while I'm working there then. 😕

Oddly enough, you are wrong. If you know how to talk to a female it doesn't matter where you meet her. If you're able to make a woman laugh you it doesn't matter if you meet her at a bar, yoga class, or at a Nail Salon. Some females actually like a man who takes care of themselves above and beyond. I have gotten dates with females who have seen me and told me they started to talk to me because I had a manicure. It threw them off initially, which peaked their interests and once we started to talk we hit it off.

I agree with you that places females frequent and males don't (nail salons, yoga, etc.) are great places to talk to women - lots of opportunities. Too bad for the pansy men who are too afraid of losing their man card to hang out at those places.

However, I don't include tanning salons on that list. I think tanning is extremely unhealthy (others have posted evidence here) and I don't need to be associated with women who do it. Plenty of smart, interesting women elsewhere who don't take such a stupid risk.

What about the ones who get Mystic Tans, or one of the other verity of tans that don't involve any UV rays? The tanning salon up the street has 3 alternative to bed tans. I know a couple chicks who get Mystic tans once a week or so. Those have no adverse effects on the body, and look very natural. I find pasty females to be pretty nasty in general.

Also a lot of tanning salons offer other services like massages etc. I wouldn't deal with a woman who fake bakes often, but if they go in a few times during the winter months that's not too extreme. I typically date females of color, so I don't have to go to a Tanning Salon to find them 😀

It was a great day yesterday, sun shining very brightly (stormy most of the week). Went downtown and people were lined up to go tanning... on a great day. WTF?

time now, no time later...

I don't 'tan' I am naturally dark/olive.

That said, tanning is quick and controlled. You get delivered the exact sun dose you want. Outside it's a gamble.

You don't lose any points for fake and bake, but don't over do it to have raccoon eyes.

I once dated a chick that worked at a tanning salon and have to agree with you that the women there are hot.

Grow up dude.

Man points are man's best tool in determining general macho-ness. Keeping an accurate tally is essential. I have been blessed with a disproportionately large number of man points, so I think I can weather this loss.

Fuck "manpoints" and machismo, just do whatever the hell you want.

I have nothing against tans, I just think indoor tanning is for goofballs. Why pay for something that you can get for free. Also, natural tans are so much better looking than those fake goldfish looking tans you get at the salon.

I guess non-UV tanning would be ok. I've seen some pretty bad fake tans but I guess these newer ones look more natural.

I'm not a fan of pasty females either, but if they spend even a bit of time outside each day just walking around, exercising, doing errands, etc. that's enough to look healthy (not pasty, but not tanned either).
