Amen sister. I had one call me the other day angry because she couldn't copy her favorite music CD out to her network user directory. I told her that 1. We did not allow music or media files to be saved to the server and used FileScreen to prevent that. and 2. We use Quota Advisor to limit everyone to having 50mb of space on the server. She wouldn't listen and insisted on speaking to the director of I.T. Not long after that I received a call from this woman's manager apologizing for her behavior.

Oopsies. 😛

You guys just hand out IP to any computer on the network? Thats kinda dangerous... We have DHCP but the computers MAC address is assigned an IP and that has to be keyed into the system inorder for it to get an ip from the dhcp server. He may have been asking you to do that but didnt communicate it very well.

You're talking about security. You guys using RSA?
We use RSA Secure ID here. Pretty nice system...only problem is people keep losing the damn key fobs.

u should have just said...sure, i'll set it and i'll administratively beam it down to that machine
and if he checks the machine in 1 min, it'll be connected to the network.

walla, one minute later he checks and it works, it'll make u look like a god and he'll worship
your toes and beg u to tell him how beaming works...then its not too late to rim him a new one.

omg, you people are b!tching about a little dhcp problem? lol...we had someone (won't say name - he might lurk AT) power off a cisco router w/128mb bgp table. guess how long it take for that to come back :Q

well, then thats your fault for not having trunked, or redundant switches and routers 😛

The ONLY excuse this guy could have is if he supported a network where he was responsible for a router that had to have the DHCP server IP added to the config, other than that he won't last very long.

In regards to the BGP table...once it started back up, it should be no problem recompiling that routing table, seeing as its not static routes.

of course it's redundant - we're not that dumb 😛

I almost have a paper A+ (I was studying for it before finding my current non-IT job), and even I know this guy's an idiot. All I've ever worked on are home networks with 2 or 3 PC's.
