I have a 17" TFT Matrix LCD monitor, I just want to know if I have to use the "thing that block the radiation" so that it won't hurt my eyes in the long run?????

you better block the radiation from the light reflecting off your walls too... maybe by painting everything in your room black... and use red lights so they don't emit as much radiation

Don't worry about it. I've never used one of those things.

Well, an LCD monitor is basically a fluorescent light behind a color-changing glass/plastic sheet. It emits much less radiation than a CRT, which is an electron gun shooting rays into your eyes. ;) I doubt either present a large health hazard, though you'd be advised (via common sense) not to spend all day, every day in front of a computer (LCD, CRT, or otherwise). Modern monitors come with a TCO (IIRC) rating, which regulates the amount of evil stuff they can spew at you. I'm not sure how an extra layer of glass will help beyond the quite heavy one already sitting between you and the CR in your T, but I _am_ fairly sure it won't make a lick of difference with an LCD.

Glare is another issue, but an LCD is already flat--beyond fancy coating, you can't get much more glare-resistant. And an LCD is all but guaranteed to be easier to read than a CRT, eliminating eye strain from that part of the comfort equation.

I'm sure the same ergonomics rules apply with LCDs as with CRTs: take a break from staring at the screen every so often to focus on something far away and move your buttocks, and don't forget to blink. >_<

I usually just go the a dental supply store and buy a lead vest that they use for xrays and cut out eye holes in it. It so heavy that it doesn't slide off my head when gaming. Works for dangerous CD rom radiation too like that other thread.

lol stop trying to scare him...

in your case.. you better recommend him to wear sunglasses at all times.. cuz there's colorful light going into your eyes all the time ;)

according to IBM's health guide... VDTs emit 99% less radiation than light reflected off walls from buildings...
