Do I have to install the APC UPS software to get my PC to switch to battery when the power goes out?

The software just looked like a bunch of extras but do I need it for the UPS to function how I want it to? I want my computer to switch to battery and shut down immediately in the event of a power outage.

no, once u plug it in, your desktop activates the power management's feature where u can select when to shut off the PC if the % of battery drops below certain level..just like a laptop

just connect the UPS to your PC via the provided cable an windows will load the driver automatically

The UPS is recognized but I can't find anywhere where I can set it to go to battery when the power goes out. So far I have only found the stuff where you set your power scheme like minimal, etc...and it also shows the battery charge of the UPS...its at 100%.
