Im wondering can I pre-mix before I bring to the gym or will it lose its effectiveness if I do it that way

Depends on the protein. I had one a while ago that would start smelling/tasting rancid if you didn't drink it within a couple hours.

I don't know that it would lose its effectiveness, but as brikis mentioned, I'd imagine some varieties would likely start to taste a bit funky if not consumed soon after mixing.

I personally don't use protein powder, but those I know at the gym who do just bring the powder with them in a mixer, and add water after their workout. Might be a better alternative for you. If you mix with milk (which is what I did way back when I took the stuff), then I don't think I'd want to drink any dairy product I'd left unrefridgerated for a couple hours.

when I used my protein powder, I mixed it with milk, and that would go bad after a few hours (walking to class, hour and a half class, walking to gym, workout, then consume)

I ended up tossing a few ice cubes in it on my way out the door in the morning, and it was never a problem after that.

As for the protein breaking down after being mixed... I wouldn't think so. The typical extent of breakdown by enzymes is to amino acid, which would still be usable by your body if you drank them. But my guess is that it's fine.

I started mixing mine in the morning and tossing it in the fridge at work.

Tastes 100% fine to me.

if it wasn't refrigerated I would not though.

I shake mine and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes to let all the air bubbles dissipate. Just personal preference. I've let it sit before for hours (take it to work, school) but it's always tasted different to me. Different consistency. Not bad, but I prefer it "freshly shaken" 🙂

When I used to do protein supp. I would just carry baby food jars with the mixtures in it, keeps dry, and easy to scrape out with your finger.

I remember something about consuming immediately for a few supps.
