i ordered some kingston 128MB DDR 2100 RAM from newegg to go along with some other cpu components i purchased. here is the link to the product i ordered: newegg (first one on the list). im really not a picky person, and figure that if i order something and it's the wrong thing (meaning the fault was on my end) i'm the kind of person who will just keep it and say the heck with it. but i dont really think im wrong in this instance.

looking at the product link, it mentions nothing of ECC (error correction) on the ram. when it arrived today the sticker says 128MB 266MHz DDR SDRAM ECC. correct me if im wrong, but epox 8kha+ motherboard does not support ECC and im hoping this is the reason i get no video display when i try to boot it up (does that seem about right?).

if it's my mistake and i ordered the wrong ram i will keep it, but if judging by what you see on that page you would be expecting non-ECC ram, then i will promptly return it. what do you guys think?

I'd say keep it, you just got better RAM then you originally thought you were getting.
Whether the 8kha+ supports ECC DRAM is an entire non-factor. if it supports it and you don't wish to use the ECC capabilities then you can disable it in the BIOS, and if it doesnt it will treat it as a regular non-ECC DRAM. It most definitely has nothing to do with a lack of video display.

page 3-6 in the epox manual says "this mainboard doesnt support ECC memory module"
when i try to turn it on with the memory in place, the LCD says "C1". looking at the post codes
it says:

Detect memory
- Auto-detection of DRAM size, type and ECC
- Auto-detection of L2 cache (socket 7 or below)

so im *HOPING* this is the reason when i powerup, nothing comes up on the screen. i
went to best buy and compusa, you ask them for PC2100 ram and they look at you like
you have 3 heads...."but we have RDRAM though!"

Sure sounds like they sent you the wrong part. :( I'd definitely call Newegg about it, esp. if it was their fault.

ecc is more expensive than non-ecc,
even the chipset doesn't support ecc, ecc memory still works as non-ecc.

Do you have the Kingston part number on the memory? If it's KVR266X64C25 then it's non-ECC; if 72 then it's ECC. The Newegg site clearly labels the part number as a non-ECC module and I'd be flipping out if they won't make a cost-free (to you) exchange. Does the Newegg receipt say anything? Do you have the order status printout to see what you ordered?

Kingston Part No. Search.

That's not always true. It depends on how the BIOS detects the ECC and if it disables the ECC channel or just ignores it. And if it gets past POST, you're not guaranteed funk-free operation.

sorry tenchim, it is indeed X64. but on the front of the packaging it clearly states 12MB 266Mhz DDR SDRAM ECC. guess that teaches me a lesson, i have 2 crucial 256MB coming my way monday. *HOPEFULLY* that is the only thing holding me back from getting my system up and running.
