It's true, cable internet is faster than DSL. You'd get what, 1.5 mbps?

That's insane that you have 3 high-speed connections though, your family doesn't need that many. So the sister literally has a dedicated 3 mbps connection that is only used 3 months out of the year? Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Ideally, you should upgrade the DSL since it sounds more reliable. You don't want crappy download speeds being shared between 4 people. Your family would save a ton of money. If you cancel two high-speed cable accounts, that's probably $80+ per month that your family would save, since it depends on how many other cable services you're using (TV?)

Yeah, who the heck has three internet connections for 4 computers. You guys are literally burning money. I have Comcast cable (the cheapest btw) 3mb DL and 512 up and I've had 3 computers all playing online games at the same time with no issues at all.

A "cheap" internet connection will not be bogged down by 10 computers surfing the internet, let alone 2.


Have your dad cancel all connections but the DSL or cable (whichever you like the most). Then paypal me the $$ you save every month (should be about $100).

Her internet has been cutting out ever since she got the cable but she refuses to switch to DSL, she has this mindset that cable is inherently faster despite the fact that she?s got the cheapest cable plan (3Mb). Believe it or not, we have Two cable modems (from two different providers) and one DSL Modem. The women act like little princesses and think they deserve their own internet connection when it would have made sense to just share the one, 6MB cable with QOS control. The reason we have a 6MB cable and 3MB cable is because my sister, another 'little princess' wanted cable in her room and therefore she got her way. I told her to just go onto our router and I'll set it up for QOS control so the internet doesn't get bogged down, she didn't like the idea (of course) and got her own internet anyways. As the 'good son' that I am, I didn't get a separate internet but instead piggybacked onto my dad's cable internet.

To be honest, I hate the cable, the only thing I like about it right at the moment is the fact that I've got 1Mb upload speeds. The problem with my dad and sister is the fact that they've probably think I'm conspiring against them or some crap, they probably thinking that cable internet is inherently faster, they always try to pin this on me when it's them that should be asking the question (do I need this?).
I tell her DSL is plenty fast (which it is..) and much more reliable than her crapcast internet but she then complains and says "download speeds will be too slow, la la la i'm not listening", like that really matters whether or not it's true because YOU DON"T ****** LIVE HERE.

Don't they know they're sharing the same backbone on the cable connection? It's like taking a mono audio connection and splitting it to stereo to get better sound separation?

Unless everyone in your family downloads stuff through torrents all day long, I can see why you are complaining.

I use to download around around 5GB a day on my 6mbit cable connection that I shared with my family of 4. No one complained, or even noticed that I was downloading stuff. There was bandwidth to spare. I can't imagine why you would have three connections for family of what sounds like 4.

Just upgrade to the fastest DSL connection, and drop the others FTW.

What a waste of money. That's like an extra $100 a month, right?
