I read OP more closely & see the mention of the red & green leds.^_^

What I would do now, and I am listing these in the order of what I think is least painful. And, you have not commented about any beeping or anything else from the system. So, I don't think the CPU is getting enough power or is not correctly seated.

1) is get a new hefty PSU from some local store. If this does not help, then you can return it so pay close attention as to how it was packed so you can make a good attempt at stuffing all back in. If this is the issue, you could still order a better PSU from 'egg & return the local one.

2) take the CPU out, check the socket with a magnifying glass ... although I cannot imagine that you will see anything ... but look anyway:\. Replace the CPU being just as careful as originally to get make sure that it is seated correctly before placing the HSF back on.

Maybe you could take a pic or 3 of your m/b installation with everything plugged in???

@Mark

Sorry if I wasn't clear I tried all 3 sticks by themselves and tried each slot. I didn't try every stick in every slot however.

I'm also sceptical that it's the PSU - however the manual recommends 600 Watts minimum and I was thinking abiut getting a beefier PSU anyway. Plus it will be one less issue when I call ASUS tehc suppprt
If you are going to get one, I recommend the 700 watt OCZ refurb @ svc.com for $40. I have 4 of them, all work just fine. >85% efficiency, I think they are rebadged Fortrons, as I have one of them also, everything except the OCZ thing on the label is identical. Shipping is like $8.58, but if you get some other stuff, the shipping hardly goes up at all. I got 2 of them for $10 shipping total.

From ASUS tech support when I had a similar problem

Dear Valued Customer

What you need to do is pull the motherboard out of the case and set it up on a non-conductive surface such as a phone book or the box the motherboard came in. Conect only the CPU, CPU fan, Case speaker (connects to Front panel connector near the power switch), Power switch and the Power Supply connections. Make sure you test outside of the case to eliminate all possibilities of ground.

Power the system up and if you get 1 long and 2 short beeps, the motherboard is telling you that there is no memory present. That is a good sign. Add one stick of memory and power the system on and if you get 1 long and 3 short beeps that is the Motherboard telling you that there is no graphics card present. Then add the graphics card and it should post.

If you don't get any beeps with just the CPU then your CPU or Motherboard is at fault. This could be because you need a specific bios revision for that particular CPU. Find the long skinny sticker with hyphenated numbers on the edge of the motherboard is towards the front of the case. The last 4 digits on that sticker are the bios revision that your motherboard shipped with. Now go to the CPU Support section of support.asus.com and compare your cpu. If the number on the sticker is less than the number on the support site then you will need a bios update. If not then either you CPU or Motherboard are bad.

If you get beeps at CPU but do not after adding a stick of memory. That means you may have a bad stick of memory. Try all the slots with all the memory 1 stick/slot at a time.

If you get to adding the VGA card and it still does not post after adding it then it may be your graphics card that is at fault.

Also Please check on support.asus.com for our Power Supply Wattage calculator to make sure you have a power supply that can power all your components.

If you need any further assistance please contact us at 812-282-2787 opt3, followed by opt3 for additional troubleshooting.

That's an awesome deal!

Unfortunately I've got kinda of a floating deadline in that we are expecting a baby in the next two weeks so I need to finish this pronto. So I picked up a Corsair 750w TX with 60A on the 12V rail which was the best they had at my local FRY's.

I intended to have this computer done back in January but the 5870 which was a birthday gift ended up being on back order. When it finally came in I ended up working nights about 3 weeks straight. So here I am.
