Do I have a chance at getting into IU Bloomington?

Alright, so I'm an incoming high school senior, and I really want to go to Indiana University in Bloomington. Here are my grades for these past 3 years:

Freshman:
English 9 HP: A/A
Freshman Seminar: A/A
Biology HP: A/A
Algebra 1: B/B
1st-year P.E.: A/A
French 1: A/A

Sophomore:
English 10 HP: A/A
World History AP: A/A(and I got a 5 on the AP exam)
Chemistry P: A/B
Geometry B: A/B
2nd-year P.E.: A/A
French 2: A/A

Junior:
English 11 AP: A/A
US History AP: A/A
Biology AP: A/A
Algebra 2 P: B/A
Spanish 1: A/A
French 3: A/A

I also took the SAT and got a perfect score on the reading and writing sections, and I did okay on the math section. My GPA comes out to a 3.86.

So as you can see, math is clearly not my strongest subject. I'm a year behind in it, and got B's 4 semesters of it. This year I will be taking:

English 12 AP
Econ AP
Physics P
Pre-Calculus P
Spanish 2
French 4 HP

I really wanted to take Pre-Calculus this summer so I could take AP Calculus AB my senior year, but my teacher didn't okay it, as I wasn't in honors and I didn't get an A both semesters. I've heard from other classmates that it's really important to have AP Calculus on your transcript when applying to colleges. I'll be applying to colleges other than IU of course, but I'm worried about what IU will think when they see I don't have AP Calculus on my transcript. Is it really a deal-breaker? Can I get in?

what major?

what are your extra curriculars like?

are your parents alumni? how much have they donated to the school?

what's your gender and race?

alternatively, you could just look at their admissions page

https://admissions.indiana.edu/apply/freshman/step-one.html

1 credit (semester) of pre-calculus, trigonometry, or calculus

the middle 50 percent range for GPA for admitted freshmen was 3.5–4.0

the middle 50 percent range of SAT scores (critical reading and math only) for admitted freshmen was 1110–1290 (Old SAT scale) and 1180-1360 (New SAT scale)

Nope. If you're so stupid that your very first post on a computer-oriented forum is to ask this question...you'll be lucky to get into your local community college.

They have a 76.1 acceptance rate, it's not Harvard lol. I will caution you though the university is a bitch trying to get in and out of in traffic.

Well they let me in, so as long as you are breathing and live in the state I'd say you're good.

Ugh, typical ATOT response. You are right, but take it easy on him.

We're all 30-50+ yos mostly here. Probably not the best audience in touch with undergrad admissions, nevermind being a tech forum.

Cambridge and Oxford is a no no and top 10 uni is a no no so you are fine because acceptance rate is over 80% in IU. Your grades are good you are 99% good just make sure your personal statement is good and make sure you have a good reference too. Happy days! What are you studying btw? If engineering then good bye try again next year

Eh, that shouldn't matter. IU is not a difficult school to get into. It isn't private and while it is a good school, it doesn't really have a reputation for undergraduate anything as far as I know (but that is a rare thing, anyway)

As pointed out earlier: it has a 76% acceptance rate. That means as long as you can prove that you are a breathing, sentient being with a decent command of algebra, you have a better-than-decent shot of getting in.

As pointed out earlier: it has a 74% acceptance rate. That means as long as you can prove that you are a breathing, sentient being with a decent command of algebra, you have a pretty decent shot of getting in.

well, obviously. He would be underachieving, though.

He actually has a shot at getting into a place like U Chicago (though it tends to be a fallback school for the overachievers that cried over their Harvard rejection letters) which is a fantastic undergrad school, but has a reputation for generating anti-social, maladjusted hyper nerds. ...it also has an alarmingly high suicide rate compared to the average (well, not that alarming if you've every spent time with those gremlins).

Virtually nobody gets into the University of Chicago. I don't have my hopes up THAT high.

UI is a pretty typical Big State University. Somebody with your HS GPA and SAT scores shouldn't have any trouble.

That said, you may want to enroll in a local community college or something the summer before and do some Math classes. If you think you might want to major in something nerdy. Starting even slightly behind your peer group will possibly mean a fifth year in school. (Which is $$$.)

I want to major in History :) And virtually nobody takes a 5th year of school. College is 4 years(or less in some cases). You'd have to mess up pretty badly in order to take 5 years.

You're fine. Just focus on writing and properly sourcing your papers. Get a Hodges Harbrace Handbook (used) if you don't already have one. Show up to class and take good notes. You might want to look into some Law Ruled paper so you can make better meta-notes in the margins.

With your username, I thought you were going into math. :p

Physics in your senior year means more than AP calculus. Your grades appear to easily be good enough. You got an 800 on the reading and writing sections of the SAT?! That's damn good. Out of the 1.6 million students taking the SAT, only about 5 or 6 thousand get a perfect score on either part. (Looking at the first stats I found, it was under 5k for the writing, and 8.8k for the reading part. )

Your B/B in Algebra, followed by better grades in Algebra II is rather bizarre and makes me wonder if you actually buckled down later on, or if there's something up with your school's rigor.

But, overall, you seem likely to get in. Your grades indicate that you're smart enough. Although, wanting to major in History does call that into question a little bit. :p
