Do I have a 9800 Pro?

I bought what I thought was a 9800np and installed it today. It has the 2.8 samsung memory. I got it up and running with Omega drivers. I installed the Rage3d Tweak to see what the stock speeds were. Core 378, Memory 337.5. Is that 9800Pro speeds? It is too difficult for me to open the case (my cpu sits in a weird spot) and get any numbers off the card. My system is bottlenecking the performance (motherboard supports up to 4X AGP), so I doubt I will bump up the speeds any. Is that the right choice? I bought the card from a guy who had it packaged with a Dell system for $180 shipped. I will be thrilled if this is a 9800pro!

I have a 9800NP but I flashed it to Pro and those are default pro speeds. Mine has the 3.3ns Samsung memory and I've got it running @ 409.5 core and 391.5 memory. I do have the SVC VGA Cooler and aluminum RAMSinks from SVC.com on it though.

Oh, and don't worry about having only 4X AGP available. The performance difference is minimal. And yes, getting a 9800Pro for $180 is a *very* sweet deal. Nice find! :D

OUTSTANDING!! Good news on the 4x AGP not being a big hit. I don't know if I will overclock this puppy just yet. Now I need to find a good deal on some RDRAM.....

Thanks on all of those quick posts!

Run some benchmarks?

Honestly, the 9800NP, 9800Pro, and 9800SE are all the same *physical* card (except some of them have different memory, but that's up to the manufacturer). Yours is defaulting to 9800Pro speeds, meaning either:

a) you have a 9800Pro.
b) you have a 9800NP that has been flashed with a 9800Pro BIOS.
c) you have a 9800SE running at Pro speeds.

If your benchmark scores seem right, you have a 9800Pro or a NP that has been BIOS-flashed (I don't know of a way to tell, other than checking the serial number with ATI). If your scores suck (like they're around the level of a 9600Pro), you probably have a 9800SE, which has half of the pipelines disabled.

I didn't think Dell put 9800 SEs in their systems, I could be wrong. I am at work now, I will get some benchmark numbers up tonite when I get to the house.

3DMark03 is good, because its results depend almost entirely on the GPU. If you score well over 5000, you have a real 9800Pro (or a 9800NP that's been flashed). If you're down in the 3-4K range, you probably have a 9800SE. I believe Dell has been selling 9800Pros with their systems, so odds are you got a great deal on a great card. :)

thats not true, the cards are not physically the same, the 9800SE is only a 4 pipeline card while the other 2 are 8 pipes.

The pipelines are still there; they're just disabled because they have a BIOS on there that says not to use them. The 256-bit version of the 9800SE can be softmodded into a true 9800Pro (or, rather, a 9800NP) by flashing it with a proper BIOS. However, at least some of those cards have one or more defective pipelines, which is why they originally became 9800SEs rather than 9800NP/9800Pro cards.

It's still the same card, physically.

most of the SE cards are 9800pro's that had faulty pipes. so odds of getting one with 8 working pipes is rather small.
