So you decided to buy this questionable software, put in your CC info, etc, AND THEN you come ans ask if it was a good idea?

Now you threaten him by telling him you're going to tell on him? Why didn't you just say no and back out and leave it at that? Why instigate more trouble for yourself?

i'm confused...did he actually buy it or are you just assuming he did?

based on what he said, it sounds like the guy got his info (probably from his name in the email) by looking him up on google or something.

well OP just said he did not, but before he posted I just assumed he did...at least that's what it sounded like in his post. Hard to really tell exactly.

But Haui, why did you feel the need to take this further by threatening to report him?

Because I am tired of people getting scammed by stupid people.

I have been looking for a cheap Vista Ultimate package. Today I received an email from a guy who sells Vista Ultimate retail for $100 and only accepts CC through Google Checkout.

I received an invoice from him and it looks legit. Since I am paying with my CC and through google checkout, I can get my money back if he ends up not sending or it is a fake version, right?

Is it too good to be true?

Trust your gut man.

My gut is to go through with it....because if he is a scammer....Microsoft will have his ass. Either way I get Ultimate cheap or my money back....

Microsoft doesn't sell vista for that cheap even to Dell.

No freaking kidding. It's people like the OP that perpetuate pirates. If people would use their brains for a change, pirates wouldn't get a single bite while they fish.

How did you report it? I'd be interested to know if Microsoft did anything. It could be very possible that he is an employee or knows someone who is and uses the discount to get it much cheaper. I can verify that Vista Ultimate can be purchased for $45 if you have connections (since I have 2 copies at that price, which are both legit and were given to me within the rights of the employee who purchased them).

Edit: added Ultimate

Also, people need to get over themselves already. I was reluctant to switch to Vista but am now glad that I did. It has a lot of handy features and has been a good experience overall. Some things can be annoying, yes, but you can turn them off or learn to deal with it, just like any other OS.

If he did get it so cheap, then why did the seller just not give me his contact information. Everything about this guy called out "scam". Why not try to stop them, one scammer at a time?

If you know someone who works at microsoft, have them buy it for you at the company store - it's not against their terms. They are allowed to buy for friends/family, but the product can't be sold for profit once it leaves the store. I got a copy of Vista Ultimate for 40 or 50 bucks through my roommate, who spent last summer as an intern for them.

That said, only about half of my computer works with Vista, so I don't ever boot into it. It sure is pretty, though. Here's to SP 1.
