The beta is offered to the IT people at my tech school. I have been told be administration i just go pick up the disks...this poll will determins whether i do or not!
 
I've got the beta from MS and if you have the chance, get it. I've had no problems with it at all but will say, make sure you have at least 1GB of ram to fully utilize all the features. Very slick, very fast and boot times/shut down is much faster than XP Pro. All I'm going to say, but definately, if you have the chance, try it out.
 
I tried to do a dual boot with XP Pro and Vista but something got screwed up and vista wiped out my primary partiton of XP Pro??? Stupid on my part, I'm going to disconnect the drive with XP Pro this time and plug it in after I get Vista installed on the other drive... I know the installation process took forever and the interface takes some getting used to.. Don't laugh but it took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to shutdown and reboot Vista😱 Right now, at least in my situation, I would only recommend it for dual boot only... it looks damn nice though.
 
I'd say pick up the disks, but don't install if you only have just the one computer.

Installing it on a spare computer would be fine as it would allow you to get familiar with the product before it's released, but I personally wouldn't do it if it were my only computer. As stated above, it's "Beta" for a reason.

Because he's running it before his friends. It's akin to the syndrome where people have to have the absolute newest software available even if they don't know what's changed.

LOL! I get what you're saying, guess I just never thought about it like that.

If you cant be bothered then dont, i personally am lazy and cant be assed messing around with the dual boot anymore. Bad memories of that, lost all my.... uh... important files 😉

yep, I learned the hard way doing a dual boot, luckily it was my gaming pc and thank god for external hard drives🙂
 
Well, Bill Gates getting richer by the minute, especially when he has the people rushing out to buy whatever the advertisers say to spend your hard earned dollars on. Well, the majority will wait and let those eager beavers whine and complain on this forum why Vista wasn't ready.
Even Microsoft has pushed back it intro date to December.
We all have rushed out to buy the latest o/s like Win x64 and found it to be lacking. I going to wait like the majority and let the rest of the pros do their thing and just wonder.
 
I've tried it out briefly on nforce2 mobo and it of course didn?t have updated drivers from nvidia.. but nforce3 and 4 do, from what I have found lurking around forums. so if you have either of these, or something as new then you should check it out.
I can't wait till I build my opty 165 setup on water cooling, cause the chipset on the newer boards will most likely have (BETA) driver updates for vista.
I mainly want Vista because of new security and performance updates... especially in directx; which will be updated to 10 when Vista launches ;-) No need to rush to it, but it does work pretty well in the state its in, and its fast even on a good 'ol Athlon XP mobile with 2x512mb of RAM 😛 Actually, the only problems I really had are not being able to have a driver for my built in NIC (Nforce2), and graphics card (directx8 hardware 5900XT); obviously not high priority updates for outdated hardware :laugh:. Everything else was cool as heck tho 🙂 As much as Micro$oft irk me, I cant help but like what they've done so far with Vista.
Definately check out the virtual folder options for organizing files, thats definately something big.

A few things to think about as well for running vista.

Get the ultimate edition. It will have media center as well as 64 bit support.
If you are gonna run a beta wait till later this month when the Feb CTP is released.
Or wait till beta 2 is released in the next couple months. These are both feature complete
up to this point with only tweaks and fixes left before final.
