Do I get refunded for charges for verifying my card?

I bought a SimonMall Giftcard from my friend.

When I ordered items from staples they charged me 1 dollar first then 15.60

Purchase - Stationery, Office Supplies, Printing and Writing Paper 536302105677 $15.60

I'm pretty sure they charge it to verify the card, does anybody know how long it will get refunded?

The exact same thing happened to me from Amazon.

The $1 is probably an authorization, not a charge. It should fall off in 3 days I believe.

Yeah thats what my friend said.

lol he tried to make another paypal account with the CC...
he got charged 5 times for $1

Looks like I'll be getting $5 on the card

hmmm and then Netflix charged me $19.XX alrdy 🙁

That is the industry I work in.

If anyone wants to know the transaction flow, it's this simple, they send a pre-auth to verify the card with any amount from .01 to however much they want (in most cases it's a 1.00). Then the settlement comes in anywhere from hours to up to several days later (can be more but hardly ever is), credits the pre-auth and debits the actual transaction amount ( on debit cards ). I don't deal with the credit card side of the world but assuming it works about the same.
