Do I, as just a gamer, need this huge dl for anything or can I just continue on happily w/o wasting my time w/ it?

???

if you want to secure your system and get rid of some bugs, then i would suggest it.

Fixes a lot of problems and updates a few problems XP had initially. If you don't really care about security or updating your software, then don't bother.

I don`t have the game but did read in another thread in this forum,

Grand Theft Auto : Vice City. It tells me it requires, Service pack 1 when using xp.

SP1 also fixes over 200 various bugs so I would recomend you install it.

I highly recommend it. Fixes ALOT of bugs like Mem said and also fills in most of the swiss holes, securitiy wise.

Microsoft makes these huge service packs for a reason, I would suggest updating just to fix all the bugs/problems they have solved with it. It is probably a good investment of a little time to just let it download...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you'll also need SP1 to properly install nforce2 drivers, IF you own a nforce2 mobo that is.

Personally, I think the short answer for anyone using Windows XP is;

Yes.
