Do hobbies tend to turn into addictions for you?

I've never been addicted to any type of drug or anything, but with my hobbies, I tend to go all-out into everything I start. I want to have the best everything. For example, I just spent $50 on a set of pedals for my mountain bike. Lots of people get complete bikes for $50. Why do I have to have the best of everything when I get into a hobby? Do a lot of people do this?

I started with a $25 set of pioneer speakers....to date almost spent $20K modifying and improving my sound system in car...and i still think it could sound better 😛

like...
buying computer hardware even though u have the best stuff... or close to it :x

i hear ya

To be honest if I had enough money they would be. For instance I like to collect military models and figures. I would devote a whole room, museum style to it were I able to with glass cases, soft lighting, etc.

I think its a natural occurence. When you get into something new you want to explore every angle of it which usually involves researching and buying whatever you think you need.

I do the same thing notfred, then when I get bored of the hobby, I look back and wonder why I spent so much cash! 🙁

Yep ... when I had money to spare at least 😛
I tend to serially obsessive ... I'll get into my woodworking for awhile, and that's all I'll do. Then I'll switch to the bike, or some other project the same way. Right now it's telescopes ... every spare minute (and some I can't really spare 🙂 ) is being spent researching amateur telescopes and astrophotography stuff.

Yea, i'm obsessive and compulsive as well..sucks to see a 1000 dollar necklace in a jewelry shop 🙁

It tends to cost a lot of $$$ for me too.

Road bike - $2100
Mountainbike - $2500

1/8 scale off road 4WD buggy - $1200 and counting.

Not in the sense that most people here are. For me the only time I get addictied to something is if I am reading a good book or something. Otherwise there isn't much that I can't put down or walk away from.

Yeah. My view is that if you're going to do something, you might as well do it right.

That reasoning has cost me a lot of money. On the other hand, if I spend a lot of money on a hobby it makes me more inclined to keep at. Guilt over shelling out obscene amounts of cash is a great motivator.

recently bought a motorcycle... so far i've pumped a lot of money into fixing it up.. expecting to spend much more making it look nice.

yes, it has become an addiction. 🙂
