I wasn't aware they had a bad rap. Nothing beats eggs and grits for breakfast.
Yeah me either.

And something DOES beat eggs and grits for breakfast. Eggs, grits and BACON for breakfast! :D

Or some good hot southern style breakfast sausage patties.

I keep a package of instant grits in the office. I prefer them to oatmeal, because when I'm hungry I usually prefer something savory.

No, grits get a bad rap because they suck.

And because they are from the south. The south sucks too.

Never lived in the South have you?

Back on topic...I'm convinced that grits could be used as spackle if the need arises.

I'd say grits have a bad rap, because they taste so bad, and have an unpleasant texture...but then again, youse folks that LIKE them, probably LIKE Okra...which is as close as nature comes to growing snot...;)

/me is a DAMMED YANKEE and PROUD of it!

I can eat grits, (learned how in the Corps when stationed down yonder), but I don't care for them.

mmm...fried okra. Although I don't particularly like it in my gumbo.

The other day, I was eating bento for lunch with some kind of okra in chili sauce and I thought my coworker was going to vomit. :D I don't think he'd ever seen okra in his life. Every chunk left a nice string of gelatinous ooze back to the box. Really, quite challenging to eat without making a mess of yourself.

Yet another totally unbelievable part of that unbelievably terrible movie. What Italian has never even seen/eaten polenta before?

Whoever wrote the Wikipedia entry does:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits

I've never had grits I've liked, but then I've never had them in a quality restaurant before. Usually it was at Boy Scout camp or school or something...texture is like sand in salt.
