Hey everyone. I have a unusual problem. My floppy drive does not work. Awhile back when I built this computer the floppy drive was fine. Then a couple of months later it just randomly died. At first I noticed I could not access it from windows. I have tried changing the drives, using different cables, powering the drive from a different power supply, changing bios settings. Nothing worked. I left it alone for a long time, and I learned how to live without a floppy drive. But now it has started bugging me again. I can't check to see if it is my bios (which I doubt) because I have no floppy to flash it with. (Don't know how to flash from cd-rom) Has this kind of thing happened to anyone else? Any suggestions on my course of action. Thanks! Peace Out

Ok, here is a little more information for anyone trying to help me. My old floppy disk is completely dead I can't get that to light up at all. I tried two other floppy drives. When they are connected properly (I know they are connected properly because I am using one of the cables which only goes in one way)....anyways when the disk is connected properly I get the solid light problem that people usually get when thier cable is upside-down. But the disk still does not work or show up in windows. When I intentionally connect the cable upside-down I get nothing, no constant light, no light to check for a boot disk, and doesn't show up in windows. Seems pretty strange huh? Is it possible that the old floppy drive shorted out somehow and took the controller with it. (Damn floppy drive!) Anyways if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

It is possible for any component to simple stop working/fail. Usually there is a cause, but sometimes there is not. Maybe something was missed by QC or maybe you just got a bum board. The only other thing I might recommend is trying a different cable, see if that is the problem.

I don't know about floppy controllers but I had an A7V that the promise controller went bad on. My answer is that it is possible that the controller can go bad.
