I am junior year electrical engineer. I've never heard of any sort of test or certification besides taking the classes to get the degree. Is there some sort of standard test EEs take before getting their degree or just the classes the university will hand out the degree? Thanks.

nope, take the classes, get the degree ( accredited university - they repeat all that in the intro class over and over...)

afterwards you can take the EIT exam, and with 5 yrs exp, take the PE exam

but i think thats about it.

edit: actually you can take the EIT jr. or sr. year? i cant remember

No, there aren't any tests you have to take. Your program SHOULD be ABET accredited or your degree will be worthless... you can go to abet's website but I doubt it's not accredited.

Some people take the fundamentals of engineering exam or get the PE, but it's not required unless you're doing boring stuff like civil engineering.

The program is accredited by ABET or another body. They review the curriculum of the courses taught so if you pass the courses you can become an "engineer". If the program meets the standards then it is an accredited engineering program. I have never looked into the PE exams so perhaps there would be a limitation on sitting for it if you don't come from an accredited program.

That and most employers wouldn't hire you.
