Do different bowling alleys score differently?

The one I went to in Santa Monica goes something like this..if you get a spare or a strike in one frame..the amount of points you get in that frame = 10+the amount of pins you get in the FIRST roll of the following frame.

So if you get a strike in frame 1, and then 6/2 in the 2nd frame, you'll get 10 + 6 + 6 + 2 = 24 points.

However this place I went to last night it's 10 + the total you get on the following frame, so you'd get..

10 + (6+2) + (6+2) = 26.

At least that's how I think it worked..

Spare = 10 pins + next ball
Your example of strike, 8 would yield a score of 18+8 for 26.

Ah, that's probably what it was..I had thought a spare and strike were equivalent if the preceding frame was neither a spare or strike.

Sometimes they change things for people that suck really bad.

Examples include bumper bowling.

OPs treating strikes and spares the same, if I'm inferring his original post correctly. Strike yields 2 extra balls worth double, spare means 1 ball is worth double.

Unless spiders score differently because they have extra legs.
