Do diet soda cost less to manufacture on mass production basis? I boiled down a can of Fresca(Citra like drink without sugar and with aspartame crap). There is surprisingly little left after all the water has vaporized. The quantity of aspartame is very small and its well below that of preservative. So without the aspartame, the amount of goo would be about the same. Doesn't 41grams of sugar cost alot more than few miligrams of aspartame?

Diet Soda is worse for you than regular because of the chemicals they put in it to make it diet.

That may be true, but I don't know about drinking up 40grams of sugar (160 calories). Some ppl drink like multiple cans of soda per day. Yes, 40 grams is an extreme amount. I was freaked out when my 8th grade science teacher actually measured out 40g sugar on a balance!

Diet should be cheaper bc they use a bit of that aspartame stuff (the fake, nasty junk).

Soda bottlers don't use sugar to sweeten their drinks. They use corn syrup instead, which is significantly cheaper than sugar.

i'll bet the chemicals are cheaper to obtain than sugar, which has to be grown and shipped to america, etc.

What a crock of sh!t. I can't believe there's still people out there who believe this. It all started with one of those internet hoaxes years ago.

Highly concentrated doses of aspartame harmed lab rats or something...SO WHAT? There's mere milligrams in a can of pop and you'd need to drink like 500 cases a day to get the same effect.

the 40 grams of sugar is a LOT worse for you. that's a lot of damn sugar.

Good point. Someone said this before. Do they still use sugar sometimes? I just read a can of Coke and it says "High fructose corn syrup AND/OR sucrose". Fructose is fruit sugar which is sweeter than sucrose(standard sugar). Does current Coke classic taste different than Coke classic from 50's?

They always say "and/or" because they use whatever is cheapest at the time of production.

Much like cookies and other junk food, where they list 3 or 4 different types of oils that might be in it.

I drink 2-3 2 liter bottles of Diet Mountain Dew per day. (And sometimes more.)

there's probably no real difference in the cost to make diet soda and regular soda. I know that for a can of beer, the aluminum can is like 6 cents and the beer is worth like 1 cent. So pop is probably similar.
