a) It's an ivy league school/top 20 school..even then there are many public schools that offer comparable educations.
b) You get a full/big scholarship that makes its cost equivalent or less than a public one.
c) Your parents' last name is Gates and reside in Redmond, WA.

Otherwise, what's the logic of graduating with loans several times that of a public school graduate?

i fall in category A.

Public

I could have chosen any private school I wanted, and if I didnt get a nice academic sholarship, my parents woulda paid..but i decided to save their money and get a comparable engineering education - Texas A&M

didnt hurt that my best friends were going there either, and i wanted to stay instate..Rice/SMU/TCU/Baylor not worth it for EE..

I love the Pack, and it's not about the degree, it's about how well you can market yourself. A person's personality is their biggest limiting factor or booster.

NC State, like Anand. don't tell me we aren't successful ;)

We don't have private/public in Canada. It's just college and university.

Public.

I've gone to public schools all my life. I like the better diversity and mix of people you get from a public institution. Not to mention it's WAY cheaper for undergrad work than going to a private university.

If all you're going for is your Bachelor's I really don't see the point in spending tens of thousands of dollars more to go to a private university. Maybe for a Master's degree though.

Although the University is privately chartered by the Commonwealth, it was from the outset considered an ?instrumentality of the state,? that is, it carries out many of the functions of a public institution and promotes the general welfare of the citizenry.
Whateverthefsck that means.

Penn State, by the way.

It's a state school........ but it's not. Kinda like Temple.

All were public colleges/universities, but I considered going to a private liberal arts college right after high school because of their music department. I was going to major in music/performing arts, but changed my mind.
